Mark 8:31-38

Wow talk about not mincing words! It’s “come to Jesus” time!

Jesus states the grand plans that God has for him, in no uncertain terms:
I will suffer, be rejected, be killed, and after three days rise again!

You can understand why the disciples with Peter as their spokesman would say, “Ah come on now don’t talk like that!”
Mostly I think because that's not the future THEY had in mind!

They want to follow Jesus all right, but they were hoping that the path would lead to a throne in a palace somewhere, not visions of grieving in the mud at the foot of a cross.
They were going to have to make a decision as we all have to do…to follow Jesus (get behind him), let him lead us, or not.
