Thursday, April 91 Corinthians 11:23-26This is a selection that every one of us hears each time we take communion. As I looked at the verses, trying to find something to write, I was struck by the timing in which Jesus said these words. Jesus, knowing he would die, gives a symbol of life giving sustenance. Bread and drink. They are common elements at a table. We have glorified that last supper, but I wonder if what Jesus was trying to say is; I am here with you, at each meal, and beyond. Who I am does not die, and I have just given you another way to see my presence in your life. What I am, also gives life. My new symbols represent that. So take, eat, for I am here with you. Drink, for my cup is full of life waiting for you. Each time you eat, every time you drink, know I am with you. |
