Friday, April 10

John 18:1-19

The tragedy and sorrow of this day – Good Friday. Who ever gave it that name? I never understood…
Seen by those who are faithful, it was a great day: a day that our sins were forgiven through incredible sacrifice. We are loved by God for ourselves with all our imperfections.

Think for a moment … Jesus strong, confident, knowing God is with him on that Friday. He trusts that God’s plan for Him is what needs to happen. But Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword away. Shall I not drink from the cup the Father has given me?”

Each step, God is with Him. Jesus on the cross, had love for all us sinners because God was with Him every step of the arrest, questioning, sentencing, and crucifixion. How else could Jesus be so strong, so certain? In a book I recently read, God is portrayed as having scars on Her wrists and Her feet in the same places as Jesus. That concept is comforting - God with Jesus even on the cross.

God was always with Jesus, and is always with us as we live with trust in God knowing our heart, and our commitment to serve in mission, and love.

Will you drink from the cup, He has given you, too?
